A message from DR. Neuman

If I had all the time in the world, or very little, I would probably struggle to do all these things. Being a psychiatrist has informed my novels, if for no other reason that many characters in the books are psychiatrists. I don’t think writing books has helped me to be a better psychiatrist; but it does satisfy a particular need. Doing psychiatry is like opening a book in the middle and then putting it down some time later still in the middle. When I write a novel, I can start in the beginning and make sure that I get the ending I want, or, at least , the proper ending.

I am now in the process of publishing three new books. “Come One, Come All” is a sequel to my first two novels, “The Seclusion Room” and Maneuvers,” published by Viking press and Dial Press. “Superpowers” is a young adult novel and “Detroit Tom and His Gang” is for 8-12 year olds and up, and all the way up to adult. A fourth novel, “The Wicked Son” will appear a few months later. All of these books are, or will shortly be, available at Amazon.com.

My role as Director of the Anxiety and phobia Center of White Plains Hospital has led me to write two other books. “Fighting Fear” (now republished under the title “Rising Above Fear”) is a guide to the treatment of panic attacks and phobias. “Worried Sick?” is about the treatment of health anxiety. Another book “Caring” is a guide for people who are taking care of an emotionally disturbed person, or for the family members of such a person.

I am new to the idea of a web page and a blog. If I can overcome my clumsiness with the technology, I will try to answer any question readers may have. Also, I will be writing a blog which will sum up the typical problems people have and typical solutions. Practicing psychiatry for a long time has forced me to learn about a lot of different problems, for example, what to do on a first date, how to ask for a raise, or how someone should handle a crying baby in the middle of the night. My thoughts about dieting will be collected in still another book, “The Stuff-Yourself Diet”.
